To See the Stars Again
"...and we emerged to see the stars again." is a line taken from Dante's Inferno marking the poet's exit from hell as he emerged back into the world once again. It is a moment that marks an end of a trial and a return to life and the beauty of our world.
This work, To See the Stars Again, is a transcription of my own setting of the Ave Maria text for SATB choir. I originally composed the music for that text during a time when I was searching for comfort and guidance in life. I had recently completed a graduate degree with no idea what was coming next and received news that my mother had been diagnosed with cancer. Now, 5 years later, this music has taken on a new meaning as my mother has finally lost her battle with cancer.
It has been a difficult time for our world, our communities, and our societies. As we continue to move forward and emerge from these seemingly never ending trials, I hope we can remember to look up and see the stars again.
