Burning Skies
Burning Skies focuses on Prometheus the fire thief and takes the second movement from the larger work Prometheus as a stand-alone work. While typically thought of as a brilliant moment and a catalyst for human creativity and civilization, I cannot help but imagine this event as a terrifying and exciting experience for everyone involved. For Prometheus, I can only imagine his heart beating a thousand times a minute as he defied all the gods to steal their precious fire -- a source of warmth and light -- to bring it to the humans (who the gods thought were undeserving of this light). For the humans there to see this, how terrifying would it have been to see an unknown figure carrying fire, fleeing down from the skies. As you see this unrecognizable flame speeding toward the Earth, would you panic and think what life you have known is about to come to an apocalyptic end? Once this terror is over and humanity is enlightened, how exciting it must have been to look at the world with a new perspective and imagine the boundless universe of knowledge.
